Bodrum to Fethiye By Public Transport
If you try booking a bus ticket for this route online on obilet.com, you won’t find any tickets.
Why?
The reason is that this website only sells long-distance bus tickets. Bodrum and Fethiye are situated in the same region – Muğla.
That means you’ll need to get around by regional buses – dolmus.
Regions manage these regional buses, and you’ll quickly notice some are better than others when backpacking around Turkey.
Luckily, Muğla Regional buses are some of the best!
You’ll find the bus timetables and prices online. The website is in Turkish, but your phone will probably translate it automatically.
You need to take 3 buses from the city center of Bodrum to Fethiye.
TOP TIP: It is cheaper to pay for the bus by card than in cash in the Muğla Region, the difference is almost 30%!
BUS 1 – Bodrum City Center to Bodrum Otogar
First, you’ll take a bus from the city center of Bodrum to the main bus station – Bodrum Otogar.
The main bus station is about 6km from the city center and takes about 15 minutes to reach it by bus.
You’ll find this bus on the terminal’s north end, as seen in the photo.
Ask any of the other bus drivers for it if you can’t find it, everybody should be able to point you in the right direction.
The bus departs quite often, I didn’t see a fixed schedule but it seemed like there was one every 15 minutes.
I paid in cash and it cost me 25 Turkish lira, while people who paid with a card paid only 17 Turkish lira.
Sure, it is a small difference for a short journey, but it quickly adds up for more expensive rides!
BUS 2 – Bodrum Otogar to Muğla
Once you’re at Bodrum’s main bus terminal you’ll look for a dolmus (minibus) that goes to Muğla.
It is on the same level where the bus from the city center left you. You don’t need to enter the terminal or go to the upper level.
A bus departs every 30 minutes, and you’ll want to be one of the first people on the bus if you don’t want to stand during the trip.
You can check the schedule here. The ride takes about 2 hours.
Remember the bus is cheaper if you pay by card! Prices in Turkey seem to change quite often, so you can check up-to-date prices on the link above too!
BUS 3 – Muğla to Fethiye
You will get off at the last station in Muğla, the bus will leave you at a random bus station but that’s ok.
Now you’re waiting for the next minibus – the one that has Fethiye written on it.
Here is the timetable to have an idea of how often this bus departs, but I waited about 15 minutes between the two buses.
The ride takes about 3 hours. As I told you earlier, make sure that you’re the first on the bus, so you can sit.
This bus was a bit crowded when I took it, but most people didn’t go all the way to Fethiye.
Pay by card to save money!
A bus will take you to the city center of Fethiye and you can take another minibus or simply walk to your accommodation.
How much is a bus from Bodrum to Fethiye?
This bus journey cost around 12€, including all 3 buses I took.
It would be more slightly more expensive if I paid in cash, so remember to pay by card!
The journey took about 5 hours, which is longer than it says on Google Maps.
Getting around Turkey by bus is quite affordable.
Other Ways To Get From Fethiye To Bodrum
If you don’t feel like taking multiple buses and embarking on a 5-hour-long journey, you can always check the price of rental cars in Turkey and decide if it is worth it for you.
You can also opt for a private transfer, but these are usually quite pricey (from what I’ve seen about 200€ in one direction) and only really worth it if you’re in a group.
A bus is not the only way to get from Fethiye to Bodrum, but it is definitely the cheapest option.
Final Thoughts: Bodrum to Fethiye Bus
It is possible and affordable to take a bus from Bodrum to Fethiye or Fethiye to Bodrum, depending on which itinerary you’re following.
The journey includes 3 minibusses and lasts about 5 hours, depending on the traffic.
I found the journey quite enjoyable as I was sitting throughout the trip. Make sure to be one of the first people on the bus to catch a seat. These minibusses only have about 15 seats!
Pay with a card to save money, I used Revolut to avoid fees, because the ticket is more expensive when paying in cash.
