Where To Watch The Sunset In Pula? Pula Sunset Spots!

Are you visiting Pula this summer and wondering where is the best sunset in Pula? I’ve got you covered.

As a Pula local and a big sunset lover, I know all the best Pula sunset spots, including a few hidden gems.

From beach bars and restaurants with sunset views to secluded beaches and charming viewpoints, you’re in for a treat!

Let’s jump right in!

1. Verudela Tiny Chapel

The most iconic sunset spot in Pula must be the tiny church wall on Verudela’s coastline. It is also my favorite place to watch the sunset in Pula because it works year-round!

While this place is nicknamed the tiny church, locals also call it the sacred rock; there’s no church there. It’s just one wall of a long-gone chapel.

Sitting at the edge of the cliff (or a bit further back, like a responsible tourist), you’ll get front-row seats to the sunset over the open sea.

The viewpoint is right next to Verudela Canyon and reachable with a 5–10 minute walk from the parking area. Totally free and worth the quick walk!

2. Pula Port

If you want to watch the sunset from the city center before grabbing dinner, you’ll be glad to know that you can see it all along the Harbour of Pula promenade.

Depending on the time of the year, you’ll have to go closer to the train station in the north or closer to the Temple of Augustus in the south. 

To be quite honest, Pula doesn’t have the nicest seafront promenade, but it is still unique with the waterside cranes within the shipyard in the distance.

3. Pula Sunset Kayak Tour

If you want to enjoy the sunset away from the crowds, one of the best ways is to join a sunset kayak tour.

Kayaking has become really popular in Pula over the past few years, and it’s easy to see why. Our rocky coastline and hidden sea caves are perfect for exploring.

While there are tours throughout the day, the sunset tours in transparent kayaks are a must-do. 

Gliding over the water as the sun goes down and watching the stars in your illuminated kayak in the middle of the sea? It’s pretty unforgettable.

This sunset kayak tour is my favorite as it departs from Verudela and has by far the best ratings! Don’t wait, as it can sell out quickly in the high season. 🛶 🌅

4. Pula Citadel

Visiting the citadel is one of the best things to do in Pula, and catching the sunset from the hill in front of it offers a great combo of views and history. 

You’ll get panoramic views over the rooftops, the sea, and even the amphitheater in the distance.

The citadel usually closes before sunset, but you can still enjoy it on one of the benches around the hill in front of it.

5. Pula Sunset Cruises

I love a nice sunset cruise! You sit back, relax with your drink, and enjoy the view away from the crowds.

A cool addition to sunset cruises in Pula is the high chance of seeing dolphins!

Departing from the city center, this Pula sunset cruise is the best-rated option. It’s a 3-hour boat tour where you get to see the city from a different perspective, have dinner on board, and enjoy the sunset.

And it’s actually quite affordable compared to similar options in the south of the country and makes for a great day trip from Pula!

6. Pula Arena

If you visit one tourist attraction in Pula, it should be the Pula Arena. I’d argue that it is better than the one in Rome, as it is not all dug up and you can walk around and even attend events!

Pula Arena is a popular music concert venue, and you can also watch movies under the stars during the Pula Film Festival.

This sunset spot works the best during summer, May to August, as that’s when the sun sets in front of the Arena and you can see the vibrant colors through ancient windows of this impressive monument.

7. Verudela Lounge Bars

If you’re a fan of classy lounge bars with sunset views, the Verudela peninsula is the place for you. There are several bars and restaurants along the coastline, but not all of them have sunset views.

Bonaca Restaurant & Lounge Bar

Bonaca Lounge Bar is one of my favorite lounge bars in the city. The location is absolutely stunning, with an incredible view of the open sea.

Also, it is surprisingly affordable, especially considering the prime location and the upscale vibe. I only had a non-alcoholic drink, but it was under €4, which is about the same as anywhere else in town.

Bonaca is also a restaurant, so if you’re thinking about a sunset dinner here, I’d recommend booking ahead as they’re pretty popular!

E&D Bar & Restaurant

E&D was one of the first lounge bars in the area, and I remember going there with my parents and as a high school student.

It is not a seafront spot like Bonaca, but you still get a nice view of the sea and sunset. It’s also much easier to reach as it’s right next to the parking.

Grand Hotel Brioni Bar

Finally, we have the lounge bar within the upscale Grand Hotel Brioni. I’ve seen photos from this place and they look absolutely stunning!

I know you don’t need to be a guest of the hotel to visit the bar, but I couldn’t figure out how to reach it when I was there.  

8. Pula Beaches

Back to the free suggestions, you can catch a beautiful sunset from most west-facing beaches in Pula. Luckily for you, most are facing west! 

Honestly, staying at the beach and swimming until sunset is one of my favorite things to do. 

During the swimming season, sunset in Pula is usually between 7 PM and 8:30 PM, so it’s super easy to just spend the whole afternoon by the sea and catch the sunset before heading home.
