11 Best Beach Destinations in Europe for Gen Z (2026)
Europe in the summer, when you’re in your 20s, is honestly just elite. Think beach days that turn into nights out, meeting random people you end up partying with all week, and those unreal spots you’ve definitely seen all over Instagram.
But I know how hard it can be to actually pick where to go. There are so many places, like Ibiza, Ios, Albania, or Barcelona, and they all look amazing online, so it’s hard to tell what’s actually worth it.
I live in Europe (first Croatia, now France) and travel around basically full-time. I’ve spent way too much time figuring out which places live up to the hype, and which don’t.
So I put together this guide to the best beach destinations in Europe for Gen Z in 2026, based on my own trips and what all my travel friends in their 20s are loving right now.

Europe’s Best Beach Destinations – My Experience
I’ve basically spent every summer of my life in Europe, whether it was the beaches in Croatia, the French Riviera, or island hopping around Greece. So I’ve seen a lot of beach destinations… and not all of them hit the way I expected.
Some places surprised me in the best way, and others… not so much. I remember going to Naxos thinking it would be this fun, beach island; turns out, it felt way more family-oriented than I expected.
At the same time, there were so many more solo travelers and backpackers in Santorini than I would have expected!
Meanwhile, places like the south of France all had completely different vibes depending on the town, some super chill, others way more boujee and nightlife-focused.
And then there are spots like Albania or Montenegro, which felt so underrated when I first visited, and now certain areas are blowing up with Gen Z travelers.
One thing I’ve learned is that there’s no “one perfect” beach destination. Everyone’s idea of a fun trip is different, and so is everyone’s budget. I definitely couldn’t afford places like the French Riviera in my early 20s, which is why I made sure to include some more affordable European beach destinations on this list, too.

My Favorite Beach Destinations in Europe for Gen Z
1. Ibiza, Spain
Ibiza is that place everyone talks about, and honestly, it lives up to the hype if you’re going for the right reasons. If you want a trip that’s all about partying, socializing, and meeting people from all over the world, this is one of the best spots in Europe.
During the day, you’ve got beautiful beaches and chill beach clubs where everyone’s just hanging out, recovering, and getting ready for round two. Then at night, it’s a completely different energy. Think huge clubs, big DJs, and parties that go until sunrise.
That said, it’s definitely not cheap. Between club tickets, drinks, and accommodation, it adds up fast. Also, I wouldn’t say it’s the best place for solo travelers; it would be more fun to travel with a group of friends.
But a lot of people I know see Ibiza as a “once in your 20s” kind of trip, and it really does feel like that. If you’re going for the vibe, the parties, and the memories, it’s hard to beat.

2. Budva, Montenegro
Montenegro still feels a bit underrated, but I’ve always known Budva as a cheap, fun beach destination for people from my region. It’s basically like a more affordable version of the Croatian coast, with a really fun mix of beach days and nightlife, but without the insane prices.
Budva is probably the best place for Genz Z travelers. During the day, you’ve got long beach stretches where everyone’s just hanging out, swimming, and grabbing drinks by the water. Then at night, the whole place shifts, beach clubs turn into party spots, and the Old Town gets super lively with bars and people out until late.
What I love about Budva and Montenegro is that it still feels a bit less “polished” than places like Ibiza, in a good way. It’s more spontaneous, more chaotic, and honestly just really fun if you’re traveling with friends.
Plus, it’s still more budget-friendly, which makes a huge difference if you’re trying to have a good time without spending a fortune.

3. Ios, Greece
We can’t talk about summer in Europe without talking about the Cyclades islands. Ios is probably one of the most fun places you can go in your 20s, especially if you’re traveling with friends or looking to meet people.
It’s known for being a party island, but in a very chaotic, social, not-too-serious way. Think cheap drinks, packed bars, and nights that somehow turn into mornings. It’s very easy to make friends here, especially if you’re staying in hostels.
During the day, everyone heads to the beach to recover, so you get that perfect balance of chill beach time and wild nights out.
What makes Ios stand out is that it’s still relatively affordable compared to places like Mykonos or Santorini, which is why it’s such a favorite for Gen Z travelers. Sure, Mykonos is still THE place for upscale nightlife in the Cyclades, but Ios and Paros nightlife are quickly catching up.

4. Barcelona, Spain
I love Barcelona in the summer. It’s perfect if you can’t decide between a beach trip and a city break because you get both. You can spend your day at the beach, then head straight into the city for food, drinks, and a night out.
The last time I was in Barcelona, I booked 3 nights as a weekend beach break, and on the last day, I was sitting on the beach drinking a cocktail and just decided to extend for 2 more nights. Honestly, it’s just that good.
The vibe here is super social and international, which makes it really easy to meet people. There are so many trendy cafés, bars, and spots that feel very Gen Z-coded, especially around El Born and Gràcia.
I’ve always loved how effortless Barcelona feels. You don’t need a strict plan; you can just wander, go from beach to brunch to bar, and it somehow all works.
It’s not the cheapest destination, but it’s also not French Riviera-level expensive, so it sits in a nice middle ground.
5. Ksamil, Albania
You can’t open Instagram or TikTok these days without seeing a travel video from Albania. Ksamil (and the Albanian Riviera in general) has blown up so much recently and for good reason. The water is insanely clear, the beaches are beautiful, and it still feels way more affordable than most places in Europe.
When I first started hearing about Albania as a beach destination, it wasn’t really on most people’s radar. Now it feels like everyone is either going or planning to go.
There’s not a huge party scene like Ibiza or Ios, but there are still beach bars, good music, and a fun atmosphere, just more chill overall.
There are some downsides that people don’t always share on social media. You often have to pay for beach access to get a sunbed, and some spots can get crowded. But when I was traveling in my early 20s, I honestly didn’t care that much.

6. Corfu, Greece
I was so surprised when I visited Corfu for the first time, as it is one of those islands that does a bit of everything: beautiful beaches, great viewpoints, and a surprisingly fun nightlife scene.
Some areas are more relaxed, but also places like Kavos are Corfu nightlife hubs where things get a lot more lively, especially in the summer.
I feel like Corfu is a really solid choice if you’re going with a group and not everyone wants the exact same vibe. With a week in Corfu, you can have chill beach days, explore cute towns, and still go out at night.
It’s also relatively affordable compared to some of the more “famous” Greek islands, which makes it a popular pick for students. Overall, it’s just a really easy, fun destination that works for a lot of different travel styles.
7. Mallorca, Spain
Mallorca has been all over social media recently, and for a good reason. You can have super chill, aesthetic beach days, but also go out at night if you want, so it works for pretty much any kind of trip.
The beaches here are unreal, especially the little calas (hidden coves) with turquoise water that look straight out of Pinterest. It’s the kind of place where you’ll end up taking a million photos without even trying.
At the same time, there are areas with a really fun social scene, beach clubs, bars, and nights out that aren’t as intense (or expensive) as Ibiza, but still a really good time.
It’s also great if you want a mix of everything: relaxing, exploring, cute towns, and a bit of nightlife.

8. Ölüdeniz (Fethiye), Turkey
Turkey used to have a reputation as just a package holiday destination, but on my last backpacking trip in Turkey, I realized that couldn’t be further from the truth. I loved so many spots along the Turkish coastline, but Ölüdeniz is by far one of the most unique beach destinations in Europe.
The Blue Lagoon is that place you’ve probably seen photos of, with super calm, bright blue water and mountains all around. It’s very aesthetic, very peaceful, and perfect for those slower beach days.
But what makes it really stand out is the adventure side. Paragliding here is huge, and I honestly think it’s one of the coolest things you can do on a beach trip. I also went on a really cool hike along the coastline.
It’s also really affordable compared to a lot of other destinations on this list, which makes it even more appealing.
If you want a mix of chill, views, and something a bit different, this is such a good pick.
9. Zrće Beach, Croatia
Zrće Beach is basically Croatia’s answer to Ibiza, but with more of a festival vibe.
It’s known for its beach clubs that host day-to-night parties, big DJs, and events all summer long. You can literally go from lying on the beach to being in the middle of a party without even moving locations.
I’ve spent countless summers in Croatia, and Zrće always had that reputation as the place to party—so many of my friends would spend a weekend there, even though we lived on the coast!
The crowd is super young and international, which makes it really fun if you’re traveling with friends or looking to meet people. At the same time, there are other areas of Pag Island that are much calmer.
If your main goal is music, parties, and that nonstop summer energy, this is one of the best spots in Europe.

10. Malta
Malta is one of those places that feels a bit different from your typical beach destination, and that’s why I love it.
Instead of sandy beaches everywhere, you get rocky cliffs, insanely clear water, and a lot of spots for swimming and cliff jumping. It’s also a place for those who want more than just beaches and nightlife, as there are so many cultural spots to explore.
I feel like Malta attracts a really social crowd. It’s small, so people end up going to the same places, which makes it easy to meet others.
There’s also a really solid nightlife scene, especially around St. Julian’s, with bars and clubs that are busy pretty much every night. At the same time, it is not known as a European party destination like Ibiza or Zrće.
Finally, it’s also pretty affordable compared to a lot of Western Europe, which is always a plus.

11. Albufeira, Portugal
I can’t make a list of the best beach destinations in Europe for Gen Z without mentioning the Algarve coast. Albufeira is one of the most popular beach destinations for young travelers in Portugal, and once you’re there, it’s easy to see why.
You’ve got beautiful beaches during the day, and then at night, the whole place turns into a party. The strip is packed with bars, cheap drinks, and people just out to have a good time.
I’ve noticed it’s especially popular with groups of friends just looking for an easy, fun, no-stress trip. I visited with my boyfriend, so we weren’t really in full-on party mode, but we were still invited into every club we walked by.
Portugal is also known as one of the more budget-friendly options, which I don’t really agree with if you visit in high season. Still, I guess that depends on where you’re from and what you consider cheap.
Albufeira is definitely a controversial travel destination, and people either love it or hate it. If you want something calmer but still lively, you might want to decide between Albufeira and Lagos. I loved both, but I truly believe they cater to different travelers.

That said, beaches aren’t the only reason to visit Europe in summer. Cities, festivals, mountains, and cultural hotspots are all worth exploring, too.
